Primate tracking in Nyungwe forest, one of Central Africa’s best preserved rain forest covering an area of about 970 sq km containing bamboo, grasslands and swamps plus Mount Bigugu. Nyungwe forest is a very popular primate tracking destinations with large colonies of common chimpanzees , Angola colobus monkeys and other interesting primate species like the L’ Hoest monkeys, Golden monkeys and red tailed monkeys.  Tour ends with cultural tour in the National museum in Butare.

Pick up from the airport and drive to Nyungwe Forest which takes about 4-5 hours. Nyungwe National Park is a large mountain rainforest that covers an area of over 1000 km2 where various primates and bird species live. It is a home to about 310 bird species, 26 of which are endemic, 85 mammal species, 32 amphibian and 38 reptile species. It is almost 3000 meters above sea level with Mount Bigugu the highest point in the Park.  It is also a home to chimpanzees and some other primates such as Angola colobus and Lhotse’s monkeys. There is a variety of hiking and walking trails. Some of the birds found in this forest include the Albertine Rift Endemics like the Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin, Mountain Black Boubou, Rwenzori Batis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Archer’s Robin-chat, the rare Grauer’s Rush Warbler, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Neumann’s Warbler, the near-endemic Kungwe Apalis the attractive Mountain Masked Apalis, and a cluster of colourful Sunbirds including Ruwenzori Double-collared, Purple-throated, Blue-headed and the stunning Regal Sunbird, Stripe-breasted Tit and Strange among others. Day 2: Chimp trekking

After breakfast, Embark on the  chimpanzee tracking tour in Nyungwe forest.  Watch out for othe primates like the Angola colobus whichis now extinct in Angola, the beautiful red tailed monkey, golden monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, Vervet monkeys, Olive baboon and the Silver monkeys.

Day 3: Departurered-tailed-monkey-nyungwe

After breakfast you will drive back to Kigali, en route visit the National Museum that is located in Butare. Butare is about 135 km from Kigali. This museum has a lot to offer culture ways.  Lunch in Kigali town, proceed to the airport for your departure flight.
